The Apple

While most saw you for your luscious curves,

lustrous texture, savoury odour,

I connected with that seed inside of you.

Me, a caterpillar amongst worms,

who was the same as you were inside.

While you were lauded for what wasn't even you,

I was decried for the same.

We both shared the destiny to be magnificent,

only you never had to experience failure as I did.

You were heralded as a gift while I was shooed away.

You had a cosy life all along,

when I had to struggle to become me.

Perhaps that is why after we transformed,

you were stuck with your roots in the soil providing shelter to travellers,

while I was free.

Perhaps that is why you serve me.
